The King's Speech

The King's Speech is a lovely historical drama. It is pleasure to watch, and you won't regret it.

The first thing you'll notice is that the film is very well shot. The deft use of different camera angles makes it advance at a good pace, which makes an otherwise slow story into a very exciting tale. Several different moods are expressed throughout the film, and this is done with elegance and grace, meaning that the film isn't overly sentimental or full of pathos. This adds greatly to the film's enjoyability. The thing that you won't notice is acting because it is extremely natural, pulling the viewer in.

You may be wondering why a film about King George VI received an R rating. The story is of extremely docile nature and there is no reason why children shouldn't see it. The R rating is because of a scene containing a lot of swearing, but it isn't directed towards anybody, nor is it said in anger, and therefore it should be handled well even by small children. It would be a great pity if children were deprived of such a beautiful film.

The King's Speech is a gem between historical drama films. It is most enjoyable to watch. Don't expect any additional layers of meaning because that's not how historical films usually work. Just immerse yourself in the story and enjoy.
