Peter's Friends is an interesting film with a short-story feel to it. It is more drama than comedy, even though it has some humorous aspects. There is purposely very little story - instead, the whole film is focused on characterisation and character exploration, and this works surprisingly well. The characters are all very real and believable. There are numerous examples of very good dialogue, and the plot has several layers. It is the kind of film that would normally make viewers uncomfortable, but this film skilfully avoids this - probably by setting the story in a very friendly atmosphere, where even the worst type of conflict can be dissolved. The whole film is an exploration of characters and the way they perceive themselves and others, and the way they interact. If this doesn't sound tempting enough for you, Peter's Friends also offers some great camera work and a really good soundtrack that sounds more like a groovy mixtape. Its only downfall is the fact, that the idea is perhaps too universal, which might make the film look a little too obvious to an astute viewer. Either way, it is a well-made high quality film.
