I, Daniel Blake

I, Daniel Blake is a chillingly accurate portrayal of the current system in the UK that fails ordinary people going through a hard time by creating unnecessary bureaucratic hoops and vicious circles, turning what should be a welfare state into nothing more than a circus.

Even though the subject of this film is very depressing, at its heart, it is a story of friendship and compassion, which makes the experience of watching I, Daniel Blake possible to bear. It is also interwoven with a very sincere type of humour that reveals the true face of things and will make you laugh even when exposed to such sadness, because sometimes that's all we can do.

Perhaps the most scandalous part is how easy it is to accept the truth of what should seem like a preposterous and impossible story. British audience will by no means be surprised by it because we have seen it all in the papers countless of times these past few years. This film portrays the cruel doublethink of the benefits system in the utmost detail, down to the excruciating Vivaldi music on hold.

Daniel Blake is possibly the most real and realistic character in the world of fiction. He is all of us, and any of us could be him. This film is a true portrayal of a time that should never have been, and all we can hope for is for the future generations to see I, Daniel Blake as a dystopian fantasy that would never be possible in their world. It is definitely worth seeing, it will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and most of all, it will make you angry as we all should be.
