Breakfast at Tiffany's deviates from the book in many significant ways. Those of you who read the book will probably think that the film cheapens the story, but if you are not familiar with the book, you might find this film very enjoyable. Even though this film uses many lines that come directly from the book, it cuts large parts of the story, adds other significant motives, and rearranges the rest. The resulting story still works, but it is by no means the same, and it changes the portrayal of many of the featured characters. That being said, the casting is very fitting for most part, and the acting is of a very high quality. There are a few unfortunate comical insertions that have no place in the story, they break the atmosphere, and some of them are potentially racist, albeit unintentionally. If you can forget that Breakfast at Tiffany's is based on a book, you will probably find watching this film to be a pleasurable experience. However, don't expect it to explore the characters and situations in the same way and depth that the book does or you will be bitterly disappointed.
