Galaxy Quest is an excellent sci-fi parody. It is a well-made easy-to-follow film, and you won't regret seeing it. First, you will not need any knowledge of sci-fi, or more specifically Star Trek, to enjoy this film. Everything in it is pretty much self-explanatory and well foreshadowed, so it should be enjoyed even by a complete sci-fi virgin. Of course, some knowledge of the above-mentioned Star Trek will probably cause you to laugh one level harder at certain jokes. The film has a tight enough structure and no excessive plot elements, which, in combination with a great story idea, makes it a very enjoyable watch. There is a fair amount of second layer that supports the plot well. Some might say the film is absurd, but that seems to be the point. Galaxy Quest is a highly enjoyable comedy with enough going on to satisfy even an astute film enthusiast. If you want to have a good laugh, have a go at it.
