High Fidelity is definitely one of, if not the best book adaptation you'll ever see. If you haven't read the book, you'll think it is an amazing film with a lovely story, and if you have read it, you'll think it's just as good as the book. This film has several interesting sides to it. First of all, the story is not based in London, like it is in the book, but in Chicago. This might sound unforgivable, but it actually works very well. There have been some minor changes made to certain details in the story to make it go well with the new US setting, but this ensures that the atmosphere of the film is kept very close to the book. It doesn't feel forced at all. Secondly, the film shows extremely good director work. More than a book adaptation, it is a book in film form. High Fidelity even manages to reflect the first person perspective used in the book. Of course, with a film of less than 2 hours, you have to make a choice as to what stays and what goes; however, this has been handled well and fans of the book won't be disappointed. And if you still think some important bits of the story are missing, the "deleted scenes" will be to your satisfaction - it's all there! High Fidelity is a highly enjoyable and original film with a great soundtrack and lots of amazing and completely believable actor performances. Don't be surprised if it becomes your favourite film.
